Review of Super 8 (2011) by Michael C — 27 Jan 2013

First, the child actors in this film are really great and scarily convincing. Second, the CGI is awesome. Third, the family friendly feel took a bit away from it for me. The action and adventure was constantly sullied by the sappy and unnecessary death of one of our lead's mothers.

She didn't even die because of the film's unraveling destruction... which means that it in no way contributed to propelling the story forward. Cut the irrelevant "dead mommy" subplot and this film is fun as shit.
