Review of Super (2010) by Maksim B — 23 Nov 2011
There is nothing super in Super, nothing that could really compel and entertain. Full of nerdy jokes, desperate black humor, it lacks any originality and its level of fun is way below sub zero.
Comparisons with similar flicks, such as Kick Ass, are inevitable. Unfortunately Super delivers nothing new, nothing original, nothing memorable. It fails to be the supposedly funny black comedy and instead of entertaining it could only depress and bore with its impossibly high level of nihilism. Neither the graphic violence nor the decent performances of Kevin Bacon and Ellen Page are able to save James Gunn's movie from crashing. On top of that, Super's last third is leaning towards sort of dramedy with completely boring and mushy epilogue.
Super simply does not work the way it was meant to be. It is way below the level of Kick Ass and it disappoints in every aspect we could think of. It is a pure lost of time.
