Review of Super (2010) by Shawn M — 11 Dec 2011
Super is a very funny take on what might happen if someone was pushed to the point of becoming a real-life superhero. This is actually a pretty realistic take on the issue, if a bit morbid at times. It is great watching Frank (Rainn Wilson) as The Crimson Bolt, especially when he is first using his wrench.
The acting here is all pretty strong with each actor really getting into his/her role. My favorite was Ellen Page though. She is just so crazy and does a fantastic job as a Libby/Boltie. She is so over the top with her enthusiasm.
The action in this movie is good and I liked the touch at the end with the words coming up on the screen to symbolise the sounds the action was making ala the 60's Batman series. It added to the whole comic book feel.
Lastly, I loved Frank's speech at the end about how you shouldn't do certain things and what he does to Jacques (Bacon). Lastly, Nathan Fillion has a nice little role here as The Holy Avenger who sort of inspires Frank.
Definitely check this out if you like superhero movies and/or a fan of James Gunn.
