Review of Sunshine on Leith (2013) by Riri H — 08 Oct 2013
I simply don't have a clue why the critics are so enthusiastic about this film. It follows the lives of two.
Soldiers, whose term of service has ended. They are best mates, close because of shared experiences.
And one of the men's love for the other's sister. What follows are several seemingly random song and.
'dance' sequences where pub-goers and pedestrians are caught up in some kind of frenzied urge to.
Sing (terrible dated thumping songs by the Proclaimers) and 'dance' - jumping heavy-footed, stamping.
And gesticulating. The melodramatic script gives the actors (who try their best to be sympathique) nowhere to go. Cardboard characterisation doesn't help. Feel-good? feel-waste-of-time, more like.
