All of Earth's fissionable material wouldn't do shit, but then again, wasn't it just to start a chain reaction? Anyway ... if the sun were to actually cool the gasses would be pulled in by gravity (and if it became too hot the pressure would have the gasses expanding, and thus cooling - get me drift - stars have this mechanism to maintain equilibrium.
