Review of Sunset Boulevard (1950) by Juan Manuel A — 04 Feb 2011
Imprescindible....In Spain, titled "Twilight of the Gods,"which is better suited to the plot.
Billy Wilder's masterpiece, a movie theater far from their usual. Is not sequential, beginning with the outcome with what skills derived the viewer's attention to the causes and not the result.
Film shows black with touches of humor. Acid critical to the "star system " of hollywood focused on this case in the past glories of silent cinema. Mixed reality (the character of Betty) and madness (the character of Norma), submission (the role of Max) and rebellion against his status (Joe's character).
Good dialogue with a touch sarcastic. The last 15 minutes is a great anthology with Gloria Swanson. Easily adaptable to the present. Essential.
