I'm not a very complex person, so perhaps I don't understand this movie as well as everyone else does. But I found it to be pretty stiff, and I didn't like any of the characters. Nor did I find the black comedy of the film to be very satisfying.
And I agree with John Landis who said this is a horror film (search Google for Trailers from Hell). I guess I just don't care for this style of old-Hollywood film. I'll tell you though, I sure didn't feel sorry for the male lead.
