Review of Sunrise (1985) by Randy M — 12 Mar 2010
This is exactly as good as it is made out to be, if a bit dated considering it was filmed in 1927. The acting appears ovelry dramatic by todays standards but it kind of makes sense considering this is a slient film and actors only have their eyes to express themselves.
The changes in the mood of the film are fascinating: initially a thriller, then an uplifting romance, then a comedy, then an action film and finally a drama. The comedy bit is so different from the first part(attempted murder!) it makes you forget about it and it personally made me think that the director has forgotten all about it.
Thankfully it all comes back in the last part of the film. The cinematography in this film is stunning with lots of scenes worthy of framing. Essential viewing!
