Review of Summer Rental (1985) by Jamie R — 02 Jan 2011
Sometimes it is interesting what time can do for a comedy. In Summer Rental's case, it seems to have improved. Now, notwithstanding the premise is certainly derivative of National Lampoon's Vacation and the characters rather stereotypical, but Candy's goofy performance remind the viewer what a great comedian he was.
And Rip Torn always adds a level of unexpected lunacy whenever he is in a comedy. The Chester family heads down to Florida for a vacation and deal with a vareity of hijinks but stumble upon a boat race that wil ultimately bring the family together.
A rather goofy film, anchored by Candy's lovable antics.
