Review of Summer Rental (1985) by Steve B — 27 Oct 2010
Family fun with the late legend John Candy in one of his earlier roles. Candy falls into his usual capers, clumsiness and getting on people's nerves which he normally just laughs off with his cheeky grin as does he in other movies of the same ilk.
A found it watchable and was fixed to it, most likely as I've never seen this one before and it was very light-hearted which it has to be as Candy's character has three children around him, ranging from different ages.
It did have it's amusing visual moments for myself that turned a smile to a grin or actual laugh, but they didn't come massively. Towards the end of the movie during the sailing regarta scenes, it reminded me very much of an older version of 'The Goonies', long camera shots showing the crew of the boat and all in pirate atire etc.
Lot of fun and not to be taken seriously.
