Review of Summer Hours (2008) by Kenneth T — 08 Oct 2008
Slight, but enjoyably so. Through the usual backdrop of a globally shifting world, Assayas delivers a meditation on the intrinsic value of art, the everyday use of things, sentimentality, and the dissolution of the family.
Existential without any navel gazing, and the characterizations are interesting enough to offset the obvious bourgeois underpinnings.
