Review of Summer Hours (2008) by Eric F — 05 Aug 2009
8.0.
A very thoughtful and delicately intricate film which stirs simple yet deeply heartfelt emotions. Roger Ebert said of this film â??Some audience members didn't know what to think of it, because it didn't tell them.â?? Indeed, Mr. Ebert has found the essence of our own participation in this film. It doesnâ??t tell us what to think and so we are forced to think for ourselves. In this film we think of ourselves, our parents, our brothers, our sisters, our grandparents and our children. Not so much in a warm and compassionate way, but in a honest manner if begrudgingly so. And, if we are truthful in our retrospection, we see that the things that we create for ourselves that give our life meaningful warmth are fleeting for those that come after us. A film well worth seeing.
