Review of Sully (2016) by Mark F — 07 Oct 2016
A little slow, especially at the start. Feels like they really had to work to fill it out into a feature length film. And my understanding is that they filled it out by introducing an inquiry that never really happened as portrayed. Apparently the inquiry board weren't nearly as sceptical or belligerent as in the movie, and from the outset there was no doubting that Sully had done everything necessary and was a hero.
These things detract from the movie, but the fascinating parts for me were the sequences in the cockpit when it showed how Sully dealt with the situation. Around the midpoint onwards. There's a genuine tension when you're in that moment and it's easy to imagine the dawning terror everyone must have felt when they were told to brace for impact. The computer simulations towards the end have a similar effect.
Overall it's not bad.
