Review of Sully (2016) by Mariko U — 14 Nov 2016
Have you ever heard of "Miracle on the Hudson"? This film "Sully" is non-fiction movie making based on the well-known accident of US Airways Flight 1549 called "Miracle on the Hudson" which really happened in NewYork on January 15, 2009. This is filmed by Clint Eastwood and very famous Hollywood actor Tom Hanks performed the hero pilot Sully. The double big name strive together to make breathtaking movie. A shocking preview for the film was stuck in my head because the performance of Tom hanks seemed to be very seriously realistic and it made me watch this movie.
The plot is impressive to take my breath away. In the beginning of the movie, story is going on based on Sully's point of view and he is confused his fearful delusion with reality due to the terrible accident which everyone who board almost die. For 208 seconds, this is the time when Multiple birds strike dual-engines, and then Sully make up his mind to land on water to save everyone's life. During the movie, the 208 seconds runs repetitively with each different aspects to clear up what's really going on. That story development drives me crazy into the movie. At the end, a real heartwarming video show on screen as closing credits in which the people themselves who boarded on Flight 1549 and captain Chesley Sullenberger are greeting each other.
The sound effect, for example the noise of bird strikes and engines crash are so realistic, and then there is insecure silence like I could not hear anything except captain's breathing. It made me feel like I also board on the plane too and my heartbeat was getting faster.
The main character Sully is honest men. He is activist who doesn't follow the operation in right order to save 155 people's lives for 208 seconds. I could feel how great he is.
The technical terminologies for flight that used in the story are quite unfamiliar to me so it's hard to exactly understand the situation sometimes. But in spite of it, this film is impressive human drama which we could feel the suffering of the person who have to take care of all lives of passengers and actually save all of them. Also a strong and beautiful bond among them, not only captain and passengers but also captain and sub-captain or captain and his wife, is showed in this movie. It made me almost cry. You should watch this movie if you almost lose your confidence or give up something because this might pat on the back.
