Review of Sukiyaki Western Django (2007) by Brian F — 04 Jun 2009
This genre bending homage to both the spaghetti-western and the samurai movie did a wonderful job of cleaning my palette of what Iâ??ve been force-feeding myself the last couple of months (thatâ?? s you Wolverine, Star Trek and Terminator: Salvation). In a big way I was reminded of the Kill Bill movies in that everything, including the cheesy dialogue and at-times questionable acting, is not only deliberate but essential. How can you properly play homage to either of these genres without the campy acting and dialogue?
In the end, I found this movie inventive, hilarious and above all fun. I highly suggest it to anyone looking for something beyond the dreg that Hollywood is happily mass-producing.
