Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Scott K — 24 Mar 2017
I got to say as a person who loathes Batman vs Superman, generally speaking I don't think Suicide Squad deserved such negative reviews. Not a perfect effort but entertaining enough. I think for the most part the comic book element of it they did a good job overall.
As a movie it did feel a bit manic, it did feel weird the way it was cut in the end, maybe too much on the introductions, and though I liked the music just a little bit too much of it. Unlike BvS, I think character wise all of the actors did very well getting their comic book characters pretty right on, though I wish Killer Croc was a little more imposing.
El Diablo was a good arc. Wish there was a bit more Joker in it. I also always love when magic comes into play, something Marvel has been so hesitant to show, which I hope changes with Doctor Strange.
The thing for me with this DCEU universe is, except for Wonder Woman, I just don't care about the heroes. I can't get excited for old Batman somehow leading the Justice League, grumpy 90's Aquaman, Peter Parker Flash, and a depressed Superman.
Batman/Bruce Wayne being in the movie did nothing for me. I just have to be in the minority on that one and enjoy the many other DC avenues of entertainment when it comes to the heroes in the form of DCTV, the cartoons, and the comic books.
