Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Jason B — 24 Feb 2018
Suicide Squad seemed like the perfect movie to get the DCEU back on track, following the somewhat underwhelming Man of Steel and the utterly disappointing Batman v Superman, geting us to know some smaller characters and being a film that didn't seem to have that much effect on the overall universe.
But it ended up being a waste of time, for me. It felt like Warner Bros rushed through it, to make money from the large popularity of the Joker (who doesn't do anything really in this film) and Harley Quinn.
Instead of focusing on building up a story and introducing the members of the Justice League, the studio decided to just hire a hit or miss writer/director to make a film based on this team of criminals and gave him barely any time to have a finished screenplay, while they were already ready to shoot.
It's a rush job with a plot filled with cliches, there's barely any action in it and none of it is memorable, the characters get no development or don't have anything close to an arc whatsoever.
Sure, some of the cast gives solid performances due to their charisma, but they can't save this poorly edited mess of a film that feels like a cheap music video. It's just sad watching characters I love to get this kind of treatment and I wish I hadn't payed to see this.
.. thing.
