Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Nick F — 06 Nov 2017
This was supposed to be the Guardians of The Galaxy for the DC universe; fun, energetic, raunchy and a total departure from the rest of the more serious predecessors. Unfortunately it is none of these, its is overproduced, cringey, and underdeveloped.
The movie has a cast of 10 actors and 3.5 characters as most of the main characters do nothing or exist solely to fill the roster. Harley is annoying but necessary, Will Smith plays Will Smith, and Jared Leto plays me from 8th grade.
Everyone else does nothing and could easily be replaced by any other character especially the guy who has one line and dies ten minutes after showing up, he's so forgettable I don't think he was even credited for his performance.
Had this movie not been a cheap cash grab at the heels of the likes of Deadpool this could've been a good movie, but the studio couldn't wait until after they actually put effort into their universe.
DC needs to learn to play by the rules, if you want a Guardians, first you need an avengers.
