Review of Suicide Squad (2016) by Seppe S — 01 Feb 2017
David Ayer succeeds in portraying the characters in a way that is very loyal to the comic books. A lot of criticism has been given on the fact that the plot isn't very good and I get it, the bad guy in the film and the idea of 'destroying the world' is something we have seen a lot of times on the moviescreen and became a pretty overused and boring concept when not combined with a proper reason for doing so. Nevertheless, it did not take away my enthusiasm for the film. I think that, if you're a fan of the characters and comics you're bound to have more chance of liking the film. Jared Leto's performance was in my opinion underused and left us therefore with a lot of questions. He didn't seem that chilling and frightening because we just did not see him do important things or crimes. I hope they'll give him a bigger role in another movie in the future. David Ayer said he was sorry that he did not use the Joker as the main villain and although it had also been a risk, it would probably make for a more interesting story.
In short, I loved the movie for multiple reasons like the characters and the way they were portrayed in such a way that I can easily forgive Ayer for the couple of things that didn't quite work.
