Review of Suicide Kings (1997) by Shane V — 23 Dec 2009
A typical, late 90s Tarantino rip-off that feels hollow and strangely unfinished. Any scenes that had potential were cut short for some reason, for example, there's a scene when Dennis Leary and some thugs go into a club to beat two guys with baseball bats, and we see them beat one of the but it never mentions what happened to the other.
Another example is a monologue by Leary where he tells an abusive father to never beat his daughter again, but by the end of his speech he gets up to leave, which leaves us with no dramatic effect. The best scenes involve Christopher Walken just being Christopher Walken, but the writing and the rest of the actors suffer in comparison.
