Review of Suicide Club (2001) by Cesare M — 13 Apr 2013
The antithesis of Battle Royale. A cinemtaic essay with moments of shock & dread that will stick with you. It will make you think, which deserves respect. In fact it demands you discuss its meanings with someone else if you can.
Maybe that's one of the meanings. Very cool themes explored (messages of pro-togetherness, anti-suicide, suicide as empowerment, the unfeeling de-sensitization of some toward depression and suicide, youth alienation via TV and Internet, marketing and commercialization of kids, much more) but too fragmented to "enjoy" all the way.
But pretty brilliant in the broad scope of it. You may like it a lot or only barely tolerate it, but it will make you think. The filmmaking: 3/5What it's trying to say: 4.5/5.
