Review of Suicide Club (2001) by Diana O — 03 Jan 2008
In a nutshell - Gory, pretentious, pointless schlock. This coming from a guy who usually enjoys finding the entertainment in these sorts of things.
Long version - After thinking about it for a while I realised that Sono was probably the Japanese equivalent of Roland Joffé. This film was mildy exploitative, unecessarily graphic and disjointed.
I really tried to excuse this movie (hence the two stars) for being thoroughly Asian but a lot of apologists would refuse to call the plot what it is - nonsensical.
And the opening scene was pure hype.
