Review of Suicide Club (2001) by Brock J — 12 Jul 2008
Cryptic movies lend themselves to thought stimulating analysis. Poorly conceived movies lend themselves to frustration and irritation. Suicide Club is unfortunately of the latter category. What appears to be a straightforward mystery thriller quickly spirals into oddity of a horror, splatter, and downright art house variety of film, and none to good effect.
What could have been a single question, "Why are these people killing themselves?" becomes too convoluted for any hopes of salvage. When the J-Rockers entered the scene, I turned to my friends and said, "This movie is quickly running away from any logical possible conclusion.
" And I was right. Whatever the idea behind Suicide club was, it was lost in the toss of maybe trying to make a bigger movie than it needed to be. Overall, just bad. Do I wonder about the sequel? Yes, but not badly enough to watch it.
