Review of Suicide Club (2001) by Bryan K — 05 Jan 2014
While the film scores points for its social commentary and some genuinely tense moments (the second train platform sequence is gripping if one gets over the trains not actually slowing down 24 hours after a mass suicide, while the school roof sequence is disturbingly authentic), this one goes off the track in its second half with bizarre "pleasure room" subplots and a bizarre portrayal of pop culture that is far too abstract to have significant impact.
It is a lopsided affair, with a meandering finish doing little to counter a gory opening 5 minutes. A much tighter script was needed overall (the sequences with a hospital security guard are ineffective on all levels).
