Review of Suicide Club (2001) by Julian E — 15 Jun 2013
Interesting take on the original Pied Piper legend along with some surprising J-horror gore and some cyberpunk attitude along with a few twists and turns. The ending was a bit of a disappointment as it leaves a few strong questions unanswered (normally a cinematic device that I adore--the open-ended ending) but here it's more frustrating than satisfying; nonetheless this will surely stick in your head for a while to think about.
Some out there say this is a very twisted and disturbing film but if you're into Takashi Miike's later offerings (VISITOR Q; ICHI THE KILLER) you'll realize that director Sion Sono shows promise and potential to reach the level of depravity (with a message(?)) that Miike had mastered at one point in his illustrious career.
