Review of Suffragette (2015) by Amanda C — 07 Feb 2016
The movies write women out of history so often that it makes films like Suffragette that much more important. This is a film about women, by women. It's one that takes women seriously as people, as historical actors, as individuals that have had an impact.
For that reason alone, for a historical cinematic world where women are not supporting characters, but the driving influence. Suffragette is worth seeing. There is also the bonus of a great cast and solid direction.
The script might veer into melodrama a bit more than I would like, however, that's pretty common for this kind of historical film, and with subject matter that has never before been the subject of a feature film dispite being a major historical event, small missteps are easy to overlook.
