Review of Suffragette (2015) by Jason D — 20 Apr 2016
I felt it was very well done. It made me consider the idea of challenging the status quo, and the sacrifices they had to make and the difficult decisions between the two. The violence against the women was awful (Mr.
Watts wouldn't stick up for his wife I suppose because he was afraid for his job, were the police were scared of the women so they beat them? Some listened but it wasn't enough to make change.
Maud was tortured in prison). Seeing where we are even now, having a vote and rights is good, but as people we haven't changed so much that women are universally cared for and respected. Edith's husband was a pretty good egg.
I'm curious to know if the public destruction really made much of their point? I also wondered if they were making another point in he film with Violet being pregnant and "not able to care for the ones [she] had.
".
