Review of Suffragette (2015) by Jim M — 13 Nov 2015
This movie had great potential, Then they wasted it. First off, meryl streep was just a name they put in the movie, she had all of maybe 3 minutes worth of screen time. just to sell this movie.
This movie put so much time and energy into this womans life "Maud Watts", or I should say only months of her life. Who was she? was she a real person? they dont tell you. she was just there to move along the lose plot of the story.
They ended it badly, they had no closure. What happened to anyone of those who they put all the time and effort into? such as Maud Watts? or even Edith Ellyn? They werent real people, but instead characters made for the movie, so why not give us a story line for them? Why not make an actual movie of the main woman herself; Emmeline Pankhurst? She had a long life for back then, a big story, a good story. But no, Instead they ended it with the funeral of Emily Davison. Of which I dont take lightly, it was tragic that happened. However I feel as though this movie didnt do any of these woman justice.
It's as if the movie makers are telling us they dont care about these women as they didnt give us a depth to them, it made me feel the people who screen wrote it, directed it, produced it, and anyone who had anything to say of how it was made, made it such that of how men saw women back then "Who cares? they are just women."; "Who cares? its just another movie to make money on.".
I was really hoping this movie would be enjoyable, Have some sort of story line, Have some sort of closure, Something. It is as if they ended it at the climax and then forgot about the rest of the movie, The rest of the story leading up to when the law was legally passed.
I was completely unsatisfied in paying 10.50$ for a movie worth maybe 2$ worth of my time.
