Review of Suffragette (2015) by Hendrikchipman — 01 Jan 2016
Boooo! This movie was long and hateful. I liked Katie Mulligan's role, however that's just because she's a good actor. I was kind of hoping that Katie would join the suffragette movement and feel torn between home life and the life of being an activist.
However, no, the movie had to make her a victim of every type of male oppression imaginable. Such a cliché! She was exposed to male rape, sexual assault, custody inequality, chauvinism, domestic violence, male patriarchy, and much more.
How could they fit so much male oppression for one character you may ask? Well, they managed to do so by making the movie long and boring. Meryl Streep made an appearance, but thankfully it was only for a short period of time.
I hope Katie Mulligan re-acts this role with a different producer, because I think she is capable of so much more. I reckon Ethan Hawke would make a good partner with the remake.
