Review of Suffragette (2015) by Sue D — 21 Oct 2015
Not since watching a screening of Rocky when it was originally released have I been part of an audience that applauded a movie at its conclusion. But that is what happened tonight after watching Suffragette in a small northern UK theatre.
I think that the audience were applauding the extraordinary bravery and courage of the original suffragettes not the movie. Carey Mulligan is fantastic, as is Helena Bonham Carter - Meryl appears for five minutes somewhere in the middle of the film.
The story is important and is long overdue as a film. The camera work is dreadful. It appears to have been shot by a bunch of drunk teenagers who are used to viewing life through the lense of a hand held smart phone and have no idea what a tripod is or how to focus the camera.
Truly, it's awful, annoying and painful to watch. What a shame.
