Review of Sudden Impact (1983) by Steve M — 28 May 2006
In this 4th installment of the series Callahan is back on another case. This time, he's trying to figure out who's picking off several men whom are murdered in the same way.

*Could be considered a spoiler*.
In most ways it's pretty much like the rest. Besides a few things....
First, the bad guys really have no impact here. You almost get the feeling that Clint is battling just average guys here. None of the enemy characters really standout... Which makes you less excited when the film comes to the conclusion.
Second, the movie is all over the place. First the first half hour were ready to believe that that Clint is once again the target of the film. However, the film goes in another direction, and it becomes more about Sondra Locke's character which it makes the first half of the film feel totally pointless.
Three, the film is just totally uninspired. Nobody's heart seems to be in it. Funny this happens to Clint in every film he co-stars with ex-wife Sondra Locke... She doesn't bring the best out of him on screen.
It was also pretty clear that this series had ran out of steam. No new idea's and you could just tell that Clint got everything he could out of this character as was ready to move on.
The only thing here is a few really good one liners and bits and pieces of good action... Overall, I'd say this is the worst in the series.
Lucky, Clint made a comeback with the 1984 film Tightrope just a few years later. And followed that up with the finale of the Dirty Harry series with the Dead Pool... Which was better than this.
6/10.
