Review of Submarine (2011) by John G — 23 Aug 2012
Submarine can best be described as - dry humor, heartbreaking subject matter and awkward adolescences. Based on the personal teenage diaries of Joe Dunthorne, the coming of age indie film is a good 1-time watch.
While not breaking any new ground, Submarine emerses it's audience with subtle jokes, very little substance - yet keeps you engrossed throughout the entire film. Submarine manages to be witty, stylish while completely winning portrait of a unique kid and his strange views of the world. The ending takes you in a completely different direction. Starring Craig Roberts (From Being Human), Yasmine Paige (Doctor Who) and Parents played by Sally Hawkins (Happy-go-Lucky), Noah Taylor (Willy Wonka) the season cast nail there performances.
Re-written and directed by Richard Ayoade he was the reason I rented the film. If you've never heard of him, I suggest you stop what your doing and wikipedia him NOW. Seriously!!! The mans literally a comical genius, in the next year or 2 I predict he'll be the most wanted man in Hollywood.
