Review of Struck by Lightning (2013) by No N — 11 Jan 2013
Struck by Lightning follows the story of high school senior Carson Phillips, who is struck by lightning and killed at the beginning of the film. The rest of it is told through Carson's point of view as he talks about his family, and blackmailing his peers into writing for his literary magazine so he can submit it into Northwestern and get accepted.
The movie has great performances by Chris Colfer, who plays Carson Phillips, the character's mother Sheryl (Allison Janney), Carson's father's pregnant girlfriend (Christina Hendricks) and Carson's best friend Malerie (Rebel Wilson). It is filled with funny, sarcastic one-liners, really makes you think about things, and inspires you to get up and achieve your dreams.
Though Carson can be a bit of a jerk, you can't help but admire his determination to achieve his dreams. The movie would have some improvements, but overall it's a fantastic film.
