Review of Struck by Lightning (2013) by Nick B — 20 Jul 2014
Chris Colfer is a very good actor, not a great writer. The premise was interesting but his own character is really the only on who get's any development and that we're allowed to understand at all.
And since most of the movie is just spent trying to make you feel bad for this protagonist, the laughs are few and far between. I was very interested when the film started and when we met the different characters, but by the end when those characters even ask themselves if they really are cliche's, the answer is basically yes.
They barely get a chance to transcend the stereotyped roles they're meant to exemplify, and when the film finally comes to an end none of these characters have really been changed at all, except for that his already depressing and sad excuse for a mother is just going to be a lot more depressed and sad.
