Review of Stroszek (1977) by Tibor B — 20 Aug 2008
Herzog teams up with his two favourite eccentrics, Bruno S and Clemens Scheitz, along with Eva Mattes and a cast of mostly non-actors in this sad little tale of seeking hope in the US and of course, not finding it.
Bruno is again an extraordinary presence, and Herzog catches the both the beauty and the emptiness in the bleak, cold mid-West and its people. Shouldn't just be remembered as "the one with the dancing chicken" or the last film Ian Curtis watched before his suicide!
