Review of Striptease (1996) by Derek T — 27 Jun 2008
Forget the title. Forget whatever it is that you think this movie is about, and give it a fair shot. I was expecting a slightly less mediocre version of 'Showgirls,' and I ended up getting a hilarious comedy with real heart; Robert Patrick, Ving Rhames and Burt Reynolds steal the show, you'll be hard pressed to find a funnier performance.
Demi Moore provides both a funny, strong, and sympathetic character; and the family drama involving her and her daughter is actually believable. Honestly, the only fault that I can find is that it probably wouldn't have hurt to cut maybe 15 minutes to half-an-hour; that's it.
I had a lot of fun with this film; maybe it was because I wasn't expecting anything, and I didn't know what to expect. Maybe I was just in the right mood for it... I don't know. But what I do know, is that this film is funny and intelligent, even oddly touching, and it deserves an audience.
