Review of Strictly Ballroom (1992) by Rebecca H — 13 Nov 2008
Here we have a droning, cliched plot about a young dancer who won't be boxed in by the establishment and the frumpy girl he has to dance with who turns out to be beautiful, crudely directed with hundreds of super-close ups of people's faces so that it is constantly hard to see what is going on.
And yet, this has a sharp, satirical, fun humour and well-defined characters who all pay off in the end.
I assume this was made by a split personality.
