Review of Stretch (2014) by J D — 09 Oct 2014
Kevin hates his job as a limo driver, he's clean and sober for a whole year but he still has gambling debts to pay and they want the money by midnight or else! He is in a bit of a pickle but his day is about to turn into a mental evening as he takes a job for an eccentric billionaire and that's when things start to really blow up in Kev's face. He's got to pick up a briefcase full of money and survive the night while the billionaire is off for an evening of debauched sex and drugs.
This film is manic, Carnahan has got this going in a similar way to Smoking Aces but without the ultraviolence, he is growing a quite intriguing filmography seeing as The Grey was his last film which is completely in the opposite emotional spectrum to this. I found it enjoyable, it is hilarious in parts, Patrick Wilson is solid as Kevin with a good supporting cast in Ed Helms and Chris Pine in pivotal roles. It also has it's poor moments, I found the story wound itself up way too easily (also too predictable, similar to your typical romantic comedies) and the tone gets a bit uneven. Good for a night in and a laugh.
