Review of Streets of Fire (1984) by Glenn L — 16 Dec 2008
Hilariously dated retro-futuristic rock and roll comic book action movie.... which happens, like many Walter Hill films, to be a Western at heart. Michael Pare may have the charisma of an oak tree but he has a decent John Wayne drawl here as the mercenary out to save his ex-girlfriend, power-ballad singer Diane Lane, from evil Willem Dafoe's biker gang.
There's an annoying tough girl sidekick, plenty of explosions, plenty of 80s MTV music video sequences, Rick Moranis- what more could you want!? It is pure cheese, but to be fair Walter Hill is a fine action director and makes this trash entertaining and dynamic.
