Review of Streets of Blood (2009) by William C — 13 Aug 2009
For being a small, low-budget, straight to DVD flick, I thought it was pretty good. It also had a "big" cast for something so small. Val Kilmer, Michael Biehn, 50 Cent, Sharon Stone, Jose Pablo Cantillo.
One of my favorite things about the film was its camerawork. It did what I wanted to do with a police/thriller film and turn it into a true documentary look. Sure, Michael Mann has done it with films like MIAMI VICE, but he had a large budget so it had to look large budget.
This camera work actually seemed like it was there, which is what I wanted to do. Kilmer was okay, his accent shifted. 50 Cent, who is normally horrible, was actually okay in this and I heard he had to slim down to even take the part.
I'm glad to see he actually wants to follow an acting career instead of trying to take over and be a show off. This film follows realism, it's bloody and very mouthy. All in all, sure, it's another film about police corruption, sure, it's low-budget, but I enjoyed it.
