Review of Street Kings (2008) by Ivan K — 09 Sep 2009
Had pedigree with Ellroy writing the story and helping on screenplay and directed by Ayer who knows a few things about cop films. So how come despite a great cast everyone lowballs their performances. Hugh Laurie actually makes you wince as he puts on a one note accent from Main Street.
The film does not work at any level and you can see every plot point flagged a mile before it hits. Some of the dialogue is ripped off from other films...there is even a Few Good Men speech. Really sloppy filmaking.
Have fun and set your watch for the helicopter shot..they are about 8 minutes apart and are actually well done. Kudos second unit director...blah!
