Brutal and slow-building, this action-thriller makes a genuine actor out of Keanu Reeves, while also allowing the focus to remain on the intricate story rather than on the performances themselves. Hugh Laurie steals the show, as the no-nonsense Internal Affairs Captain, but even he can't outshine the gripping narrative, harsh language and horrific violence.
