Review of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) by Lisa Michelle A — 20 Jan 2010
Yet another attempt at bringing the Streetfighter games to the big screen, this time as an origin (damn you, Chris Nolan!). I don't recall Ronan Keating being in any of the games but Chris Klein plays him prefectly regardless. Kreuk pouts and snarls and attempts to act tough with a plot more predictable than Avatar's. There's some gumpf about Bison's daughter which makes no sense. And every movie cliche you've ever seen is faithfully represented right here: don't kill girl yourself when you have the chance, instead leave two inept guards to do it. Need time to summon up a "fireball"? Throw flour in the enemy's eyes so he stumbles around for five minutes.
Mortal Kombat was silly but it's still by far the best game-to-movie adaptation.
