Review of Street Fighter (1994) by Jason D — 23 Feb 2009
I cannot help but love this ridiculous film. Street Fighter, based on the ever-so-popular Capcom game pits Col. Guile (Jean Claude Van Damme, in probably one of his worst roles ever) against the evil M.
Bison (played by the magnificent Raul Julia). Honestly, Raul Julia makes the movie; he IS the movie. The dude was in the middle of dying of freaking cancer and still managed to deliver about 8 eight movies worth into one solitary role as the villainous Bison who has captured hostages, threatens the world for 20 billion dollars and is on the verge of world domination thanks to his development of super soliders (that's where Blanka will come into play).
We also have all the other characters come into play like Chun-Li, Victor Sagat, Balrog, Ken, and Ryu; all of which are played by forgettable actors and actresses. It's interesting to the note a couple of appearances, including future cougar pop star Kylie Minogue (playing Cammy), as well as future Leatherface Andrew Bryniarski (playing Zangief).
All in all, pretty hilariously bad film, but worth a watch just for the awesomeness that is Raul Julia. Also, nearly 15 years later, and I've now just discovered additional film post-credits that is awesome enough to rival the post-credits film after Masters of the Universe.
Awesome.
