Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Kenneth K — 17 Oct 2008
Violent, unpredictable and not a little disturbing, Sam Peckinpah investigates the darker side of human nature, and discovers the limits of just how far one man can be pushed. Hoffman is good as the timid American mathematician, along with George as his wife, but the host of malevolent villagers deserve much credit for their creepily abrasive nature, which eventually escalates to full on violence.
However, by the end of the film you are left feeling confused as to the purpose of the bloodthirsty vigilantism.
