Review of Straw Dogs (1971) by Zach M — 30 Aug 2011
I have now watched this movie a few times and find that it gets better with time.
An American (played by Dustin Hoffman) and his English wife (played by Susan George) move into her old home in a small town in England. They have their couple issues and her youth sometimes gets the better of them. He hires some locals that she knew to fix the garage and stuff around the house. They pick on him because he's American and she is beautiful. They kill her cat and they take him on a hunting trip. While he's hunting two guys rape her.
They decide to go to a church function and leave early. A local girl goes on a walk with the town pedophile. He mistakingly kills her and runs away. Dustin hits him with his car and they take into their home to call for help. And that's when everything goes to hell.
The last 20 minutes are brutal and intense.
Sam Peckinpah creates another excellent movie with so many layers.
Susan George is beautiful.
Lots of violence and nudity.
