Review of Stranger Than Paradise (1984) by Wut S — 28 Aug 2007
A significant No Wave film that features actors from the No Wave music movements--John Lurie of The Lounge Lizards fame, and Richard Edson, a former Sonic Youth.
"Attenuated" Stranger Than Paradise is: moody, drowsy, but occasionally tense with subversive allusions.
The recurrent use of long, static shots terminating on black leaders, the adrift and unambitious characters, and the shabby urban locations ascribe to Stranger Than Paradise's enticing subcultured genre and mild nihilism.
