Review of Stranger Than Paradise (1984) by Alex S — 18 Sep 2007
When I think of "minimal," I immediately think of that genre of electronica music by the same name which I cannot stand. Fortunately, I may now start thinking about this movie in these situations.
This movie is very minimalistic but it more than works. Willie, Eddie, and Eva exist in a black-and-white, dull world, populated with little music, scenes done in one shot, and cuts that always go to black.
The simple plot of three friends just living life and having fun on their way to Florida never once feels "stretched." Not for everyone, but very rewarding.
