Review of Stranger Than Paradise (1984) by Mattias E — 27 Dec 2008
A minimalistic road movie which pays homage to Wim Menders Im Lauf der Zeit. Fortunately for his carreer Jarmusch decided to abandon the introverted hip style of his debut Permanent Vacation and go for comedy instead.
Also of major importance, Stranger Than Paradise sparked the carreer of Wong Kar Wai, whose directorial debut As Tears Go By shares some key elements both story- and directionwise with Jarmusch's piece.
Check out the legendary gothic futurist Rammellzee doing his routine on some windy Florida beach. Dope.
