Review of Stranger by the Lake (2013) by Rafael S — 07 Dec 2013
Definitely not a movie for the traditional, typical, or simple-minded à la Hollywood. This is a masterpiece, a theoretical and philosophical feast, a mirroring of a certain sector of the gay world and its sexual culture that requires an intelligent act of relinquishing judgement and condemnation in light of what the movie aims to achieve: to foreground the much needed, yet taboo discourse that addresses the nature, dysfunction, and dark side of unpurposeful lives seeking a way out of marginalized and lonely stricken dimensions.
